Creating a toolbar project

During toolbar creation, user will be prompt to the New Toolbar panel where some important information must be specified.

From New Toolbar panel:

  1. Pick a Toolbar Template:

    If it is the first time you create a toolbar, the default template will be your only option. Created toolbars will be added in the list. Select the toolbar template on which you want your new toolbar to be based.
  2. Toolbar Title:

    Give a title to the toolbar. This is the name that the browsers show for your toolbar.
  3. Toolbar Identifier:

    Define a unique identifier to the toolbar. The identifier might be referred as namespace in some help document. It must be all lower-case. Toolbar installer will use the identifier in the URL. The unique identifier cannot be changed after the toolbar is created.
  4. Click on "Create Toolbar" button:

    This validates and saves data. Created toolbar is added in Your Toolbars section.

Editing a toolbar project

You have the possibility to customize the features and apps on your toolbar. Here are some customizations you may do:

  • Change toolbar logo
  • Add or remove apps that will make your toolbar most valuable to your users
  • Customize apps
  • Customize toolbar preferences

Change toolbar logo

Select the Features & Apps tab to change the toolbar logo.

To customize the toolbar logo, click on the logo button from the toolbar. These options will be presented to you:

  • Image:Image: this is the first button of your toolbar. The image represents the toolbar’s logo.
  • Image Hot: this is the logo image that will be displayed on mouseover.
  • Background: this is the logo’s background image. It is usually better to leave it without an image.
  • Background Hot: this is the logo’s background image on mouseover. It is usually better to leave it without an image.
  • Hint: specify the tool tip text for the logo button.
  • Home URL: provide the URL of the page to display once the user clicks the logo button.

To change images and backgrounds:

  • Click on Select button next to the image you want to change.
  • A Pick Image panel will be displayed to you.
  • Upload your custom image, select any image from our data base, or specify that no image is required.

Add or remove apps

Select the Features & Apps tab to add or remove apps.

To find an app:

  • Click on Add features & Apps button
  • From the Apps section, enter keywords in the apps search box
  • Or select an app category and browse among the apps available in that category

To add an app. Once you find the app you want:

  • Select the app with your mouse and select Add to toolbar
  • Or double-click on the app

To remove an app:

  • Select the app from your toolbar
  • Options related to that app are displayed below the toolbar
  • Click on the "x Delete" button next to the app’s name

Customize apps

Select the Features & Apps tab to customize apps.

Some apps present options that can be customized. Here are the general options for apps:

  • Icon: you can change the image by uploading your own image, or by selecting another image from our image database, or by specifying that no image is required for the app.
  • Label: enter the text to be displayed on the app button.
  • Hint: specify the tool tip text of the app button.
  • Can be hidden by user: user can hide the app button from Toolbar Preferences.
  • Can be moved by user: user can move the app button from Modify mode of the toolbar.
  • Hidden by default: upon toolbar installation, the app button is not displayed. User can display the button from Toolbar Preferences.

Customize Toolbar Preferences

Select the Skin tab to customize the About panel, the search highlighter and the options accessible from toolbar preferences.

    • Add your logo in the About Panel. Get credit for what you deserve.
    • Select Your Logo
    • Click on About Logo
    • Upload the file according to specification
    • Customize the Search Highlighter
    • Select Search
    • Click on Button Icon or any color Marker
    • Upload file according to specification

    Note: you need to enable the highlighter function from Search option

    • Customize Options buttons
    • Select Options
    • Click on any button you want to customize
    • Upload file according to specification

Packaging your toolbar

Select the Installation Package tab to create an installer for your toolbar.

This is the last step in the creation of your toolbar. Your toolbar will be hosted on Visicom's server. This means that all modifications to your toolbar are dynamic. If you decide to modify the toolbar later, you simply need to save the modifications and create a Production Installer. All modifications will become in effect for your users with the silent update.

Customize installer images

    • Installer’s icon
    • Click on Upload Icon
    • Upload file according to specification
    • Installer’s left side banner
    • Click on Upload Image
    • Upload file according to specification

Create installer

    • Test your toolbar with the Beta build.
    • Create a Beta installer in order to test your toolbar.
    • The Beta version will not include the toolbar package pages, such as installation page, uninstallation page, contact us page and a FAQ page.
    • Furthermore, there will be a mention of "Beta version" in the About panel. Version number will increment as often as a Beta build is created.
    • To install the beta version, select and copy the installer link generated by the system, paste the link in the browser and execute the installer.
    • Toolbar installer is generated in two different formats: EXE and XPI. Use of these installers will depend on the operating systems and browsers the toolbar will be installed.
    • Distribute or update your toolbar with the Production build
    • Create a Production installer when you finished testing the Beta version.
    • The Production version will include the toolbar package pages: installation page, uninstallation page, contact us page and a FAQ page.
    • Version number will increment as often as a Production build is created.
    • To install the Production version, select and copy the installer link generated by the system, paste the link in the browser and execute the installer.
    • Toolbar installer is generated in two different formats: EXE and XPI. Use of these installers will depend on the operating systems and browsers the toolbar will be installed.
    • You may start distributing your newly created toolbar with the link provided in that page or by hosting the exe on your own servers.
